Mild Steel (MS) pipes are manufactured using low carbon (less than 0.25%) steel. Due to low carbon content the pipes do not harden and are easy to use. Characters:
Mild steel contains approximately 0.05–0.25% carbon making it malleable and ductile. Mild steel has a relatively low tensile strength, but it is cheap and easy to form; Surface hardness can be increased through carburizing.
Composition:
1. Low-carbon steel: 0.05 to 0.30% carbon content.
2. Medium-carbon steel: Approximately 0.3–0.8% carbon content.
3. High-carbon steel: Approximately 0.8–2.0% carbon content.
4. Ultra-high-carbon steel: Approximately 3.25–4.0% carbon content.
Usage:
As MS Pipes are made from mild steel they can easily be welded and formed in various shapes and sizes for pipeline and tubing purposes.
These are generally used for drinking water supply i.e. Plumbing, Firefighting, HVAC but can also be used in various other Industrial and Engineering applications.
